With the growing number of thefts occurring in almost every area in Melbourne, security and the safety of your loved ones and property is of the highest importance. After investing years of hard work, time and money, to purchase a house for you and your family, you will want to protect and maintain the security of your possessions and belongings.

In order to do that, it is important to secure your house and belongings with a security door and system that will monitor your home and ensure its safety. An efficient security door and monitoring system, not only makes it harder for any robber to enter but it also alerts you of any break-in when you are away from home.

Here is a List of Do’s and Don’ts That will Help You Achieve This.

What to Do:

  • Personalise the Features of your Security System: General monitoring systems can easily be hacked into by robbers or thieves, which is why it is necessary for you to personalise the features on your security door and systems, and if required, then you can also link your system to a third-party monitoring provider for extra security.
  • Get a Durable & Efficient Security Door: Although you have a main door installed to defend you and keep you safe, it would be better for you to install a good-quality security door that can withstand force or sharp materials, to ensure double security.
  • Change Existing Locks Whenever You Shift to a New Place: It is difficult to notice if anyone has copied your exterior locks, or if a dangerous individual who knew the previous tenants has a copy of your key, to avoid any future security problem, it is best to change the existing locks on your exteriors whenever you move to a new place.
  • Install Motion Activated Lights Outside: Since most robberies occur in the dark because the robber doesn’t wish to be identified, it would be beneficial to install motion activation lights outside your property.
  • Have a Peephole in the Front Door: You never know when an intruder might decide to come knocking on your front door, which is why it is important to have a peephole, an intercom or a CCTV installed so that you can have a glance at who it might be before opening the doors to an unknown person

What NOT to Do:

  • Don’t Leave a Spare Set of Keys Outside your House: You would never keep your phone password as your screensaver, so why keep a spare key outside your property? Although you may not notice it someone might be noticing the hiding spot and could easily enter your home without even hacking or breaking-in!
  • Don’t Place your Valuables in Obvious Areas: Avoid keeping your valuable items or equipment near windows or any other area that will be visible to the eye and avoid hiding them in obvious places like under the bed or in the top drawer.
  • Don’t Post your Current Location Online: Posting your whereabouts online will only attract unwanted attention by any thief that has been eyeing your house lately.

In a nutshell, if you following these simple yet effective Dos and Don’ts it can help you protect your hard-earned property and belonging from theft as well as it allows you to prevent any future break-ins that could have been avoided with an efficient security door and monitoring system.
